Looking for ideas on how to celebrate National Metric Week? The US Metric Association has put together a list of daily suggestions for how you can join the celebration.
Day one (2024-10-07, Monday)
- Follow the US Metric Association on social media: Twitter (@usma_metric), Instagram (@usma_metric), and Facebook.
- Update your social media profiles using these resources. The USMA Metric Week Facebook profile frame is a great way to share your enthusiasm.
- Share your National Metric Week activities on social media. Tag @usma_metric and use the hashtags #MetricWeek and #GoMetric.
- Retweet and share USMA social media postings.
- Participate in the list-server discussion board by sharing Metric Week plans in your community.
- Review things you can do to promote metrication in the US.
Day two (2024-10-08, Tuesday)
- Download and print the updated SI Relationships poster and hang it in your office or workspace.
- Share USMA education resources with local K-12 Educators, including your state’s Metric Week governor proclamation.
- Share the USMA Science Fair Awards Program and free judging guide with local teachers and students in your community.
Day three (2024-10-09, Wednesday)
- Write to your state and national elected officials explaining how they can support metric system adoption. Share examples of how going metric pays off and how unit mix-ups continue to cost America.
- Write a metric system rap or poem using all SI prefixes. Share the results on USMA social media or the list-server discussion board.
- Share the benefits of becoming a US Metric Association member with your friends, family, and coworkers.
Day four (2024-10-10, Thursday)
- Host a virtual “lunch and learn” session. Demonstrate how to use metric measurement tools, such as the USMA metric ruler. Speak with colleagues about the benefits of using the SI.
- Share the benefits of becoming a Certified Metrication Specialist (CMS) with a coworker or local educator.
- Share the USMA Kevlin/Jordan Metric Award information with a local high school senior. Participate in the USMA list-server discussion board by sharing your tips and tricks for teaching the SI or making metric measurements.
Day five (2024-10-11, Friday)
- Write to manufacturers of the products you purchase expressing your support of metric-only labeling.
- Host a session of Mini-Metric Olympics and other hands-on activities.
Day six (2024-10-12, Saturday)
- Host a celebration for family. Serve coffee, tea, and light snacks.
- Participate in the USMA list-server discussion board by sharing your favorite Measurement League Guardians of the SI superhero, including Mole, Professor Second, Monsieur Kilogram, Mizz Ampere, Dr. Kelvin, Meter Man, and Candela.
- Have a laugh. Read and share a metric system cartoon with a friend.
Day seven (2024-10-13, Sunday)
- Host a virtual education demonstration activity with your local library or neighborhood youth club.
- Participate in the list-server discussion board by sharing Metric Week activities that you participated in during Metric Week.
- Share photos of Metric Week activities on social media (@usma_metric) with the hashtag #MetricWeek and #GoMetric.
- Contact the USMA to volunteer and continue your involvement in US metrication activities all year long. We have many ongoing projects that will fit your interests!
